WELCOME! This is the Privacy Policy of our website, democracyprep.org, for the network of high-performing charter schools that comprise Democracy Prep Public Schools (“Democracy Prep” or “DPPS”). We have created this statement to demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the privacy of the data of the visitors to our website. In creating this Privacy Policy, we set forth our practices with respect to information, including personally identifiable data and other information, that is collected from visitors to our website, and the corresponding sites for our network of 21 high-performing charter schools. Democracy Prep is earnestly committed to maintaining the privacy of the visitors to our website and we will follow all applicable laws and regulations for the handling, storage, and maintenance of thisdata within DPPS and to authorized third parties.

Things change and Democracy Prep is committed to evaluating the efficacy of this Privacy Policy. If amendments are made to this policy, we will post those changes to this page with the date of the amended change. We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time in the future without prior notice. Your use of this website after any future amendments to this Privacy Policy constitute consent to the amended Privacy Policy.

THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT & HOW WE COLLECT IT

When you visit our website, we may collect personally identifiable data and other information from you. Democracy Prep’s website provides its users with the ability to access their provided personally identifiable data to review and correct it, if needed. We ask that you update your information when it changes so that any information used to serve you remains as accurate and up to date as possible.

Voluntarily Provided Information

We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us via: inquiries made through our Contact Us email address info@democracyprep.org and other email addresses of our network schools, registration on our website, surveys that we offer, signing up for our newsletter, requests for more information from Democracy Prep, requests to contact our press department, visitors’ requests to support & donate to Democracy Prep, applications for your future scholar to attend one of our charter schools, and applications to apply to employee positions at Democracy Prep. The data that we may retrieve from you can include, but is not limited to, the following: name, email address, mailing address, phone numbers, credit card information, information about the future scholar applying to attend one of our schools, and other information.

In providing this information of your own volition, you thereby consent to Democracy Prep’s use of said information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. In providing this information of your own volition, you acknowledge and agree that such personally identifiable data and other information may be transmitted from your current location to the offices, servers, databases, and cloud storage of Democracy Prep and authorized third parties referred to herein.

Any voluntarily provided information by visitors including their demographic identity and interests may be collected through personally identifiable data and other information and may be captured and collected in the aggregate so that Democracy Prep may conduct research on visitors’ website behavior. This aggregated information may be used to market our educational programs and initiatives for lawful purposes. This aggregated information may be shared with other authorized third parties, agents, or current and future partners.

Democracy Prep does allow visitors to use our website without providing any personally identifiable data, but such usage may reduce the functionality of the website and diminish the quality of the visitor’s experience.

WHY WE COLLECT THE INFORMATION

If Democracy Prep ever intends to use any personally identifiable data or other information in a way outside the scope of this Privacy Policy, we will inform you of our intent of such use prior to or at the time of which said personally identifiable data is obtained. If a visitor to our website provides us with personally identifiable data, we may use said information in accordance with the reason it was provided. For example, if you request to join our newsletter and accordingly provide your first and last name, as well as your email address, we will use that email address to send you our latest news and announcements regarding Democracy Prep. Or, alternatively, if you are gracious enough to become a donor to Democracy Prep and you provide us with your credit card information to make said donation, we may share that information with authorized third parties to complete that donation. Further, we may use your personally identifiable data, voluntarily provided information, and automatically provided information to guide us in developing and improving upon our website content, improving our website’s functionality, and to garner a greater understanding of the visitors to our website. Democracy Prep may also use your information to inform you about: events that we are hosting, online learning tools that may be of interest to you, materials concerning your scholar (or future scholar’s) attendance at one of our schools, updates to our educational programming, and resources like our interactive grade application Jupiter Grades Portal. We may also use your information to protect, investigate, and deter against fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity.

If and when we send you any such correspondence, each correspondence will enclose instructions on how to unsubscribe from further communications, if such a decision is desired. These correspondences will also enclose instructions on how to customize the content of these communications.

Last, and certainly not least, we may use your personally identifiable data, voluntarily provided information, and automatically provided information to further our mission to educate responsible citizen-scholars for success in the college of their choice and a life of active Citizenship.

DONORS

Democracy Prep has the utmost respect and gratitude to the donors who contribute to our mission. We hold all information provided to us in the strictest confidence, including but not limited to your name, email address, mailing address, and credit card and other financial information. We will not rent, trade, or sell any donor information to any third parties, entities, or organizations.

COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW

Democracy Prep may disclose personally identifiable data, voluntarily provided information, and automatically provided information if required to do so by law or regulation or in the good faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to: comply with a legal duty, protect and defend the rights, property, or interests of Democracy Prep, act in exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of website visitors or the members of the public, or to protect Democracy Prep against legal liability.

EXCLUSIONS

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any personally identifiable data or other information collected by Democracy Prep except for such data collected through our website. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information gathered offline from persons interested in Democracy Prep. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information that a website visitor may have provided on our website in an unprompted manner. This may include, but is not limited to, information submitted to public areas on our website (e.g., comment sections or discussion forums) or any ideas or suggestions made by a website visitor regarding the programs, practices, and materials of Democracy Prep. This information is excluded from this Privacy Policy and will be deemed non-confidential, which will enable us to reproduce, use, disclose, incorporate, and distribute such information without limitation or attribution. Please be advised that when a visitor inputs information into a public area on our website, such information can be seen and used by third parties not associated with Democracy Prep, which may result in unsolicited messages from said third parties. Such actions of these third parties are outside of Democracy Prep’s control.

MINORS

Democracy Prep does not knowingly collect personally identifiable data from minors under the age of 13. We are committed to maintaining the privacy of all minors in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. If you are under the age of 13, please do not provide our website with any personally identifiable data, unless supervised by an adult, parent, or legal guardian. We encourage any parent or legal guardian who visits our website to help enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing their children never to provide their personally identifiable data on our website without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a minor under the age of 13, has submitted personally identifiable data on our website, please inform Democracy Prep, and we will strive to delete that information from our database.

This Privacy Policy is applicable only to the website for Democracy Prep Public Schools, democracyprep.org. This includes the websites for each of our 21 high-performing charter schools, which all contain “democracyprep.org” as part of their website address. For instance, the website for our flagship school Democracy Prep Charter Middle School can be located at http://dpcms.democracyprep.org/. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the websites of third parties. For instance, our website has links to Democracy Prep’s pages on various social media websites, including our pages on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram. We recommend contacting those particular websites to obtain information on their respective privacy policies.

SECURITY

Democracy Prep takes good-faith and reasonable steps to ensure the safety and security of your personally identifiable data, voluntarily provided information, and automatically provided information from loss, misuse, unauthorized disclosure, unauthorized access, alteration, and destruction. However, no transmission using the Internet is ever fully secure. We utilize various industry standard security measures to protect the information submitted by visitors to our website. These measures may include but are not limited to: password protected directories and databases, encryption technologies, and anti-virus and malware scanning of our databases and servers to prevent and protect against attacks from hackers. We encourage the visitors to our website to reflect and consider what information is being disclosed to us via E-mail.
