Season’s Greetings!

A Note From CEO Natasha Trivers

Happy Holidays from Democracy Prep!

2023, in one word, has been a journey—a journey of treading the right path forward, grounding ourselves in our mission, and making sure we do right by our scholars every day. Through it all, I am so thankful to be surrounded by people whose collective support and passion has helped us create a beautiful community full of boundless joy, energy, and love.

This holiday season, I’m excited to spend time with my family and relax with a good book. I’m currently reading The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation by Anna Malaika Tubbs.

The Three Mothers is an exploration of the women who raised three American civil rights champions and how their teachings, care, and love played critical roles in changing the course of history forever. This quote in particular resonated with me:

To me, this book highlights the impact of the work we do in service of our scholars. It is a telling of how the people in our lives can have an impact in foundational ways and help all of us find the courage to change the world. At our core, that’s what Democracy Prep does: we teach, we care, and we love. As we believe in our scholars, they find the strength to believe in themselves, and that’s when incredible, life-changing things happen.

I look back on 2023 and am filled with pride for all that we have accomplished, the challenges we have faced, and the joyful memories we have created together. In a world of so much uncertainty, I can say—without a doubt—that we are making a difference and changing the world for the better. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

As we mark these last few days of 2023, we hope you and your families find moments of joy sprinkled throughout and have a wonderful holiday season!

See you in the new year!

With gratitude,

Natasha Trivers
