The Democracy Prep Difference

Family and School
Partnership

We create welcoming schools where families and students feel part of an extended family. Teachers communicate often with families about their child’s progress, to ensure no student slips through the cracks.

“Democracy Prep is more than a school. It’s like a family. Principals greet you and ask you how you are doing.”

College Prep Academics
for All

We believe in the limitless academic potential of all students. Beginning in pre-kindergarten, students develop a curiosity for learning and a drive to excel academically.

“Teachers really care about the students. They make sure my child understands every part of the curriculum.”

Civic
Responsibility

We encourage students to make the world a better place through community service and active citizenship. Students learn about civic responsibility through volunteering in the community and voter registration drives.

“Students are prepared to go out and change the world in a positive way. There is a lot of community service. Young people are taught to give back.”

A Well-Rounded
Education

Students have a chance to express themselves and develop their creativity through music, dance, and the arts. During our extended school day, students participate in clubs and sports like basketball and soccer.

“He’d never picked up an instrument before (Democracy Prep), and I can’t believe it when he plays the violin.”

College, Careers
& Beyond

We ensure students develop the knowledge and skills needed for success in college, careers, and beyond. Students receive mentoring and guidance from counselors for six years beyond high school.

“A lot of schools say goodbye (to students) after high school. DP stays in touch with graduates during college. Students are not alone in the journey.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the application requirements?

To apply the parent/ guardian must be a resident of the state of Nevada. Kindergarten scholars must be 5 by the first day of school (8/15). Please only apply once per scholar additional applications will be canceled.

How does the lottery work?

We are thrilled that so many families have shown interest in coming to Democracy Prep. Because we have so many interested applicants the admission process required by charter law states that a lottery must be held if there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. When a family applies for a seat at Democracy Prep Public Schools their application gets submitted into our applicant pool and lottery randomly draws from all applicants for admission.

Does your lottery offer preferences?

These state-approved guidelines establish the following enrollment priorities and allowances (listed in order of priority):

  1. Applicants with siblings* attending DPAC during the 2023-2024 school year
  2. Applicants economically disadvantaged living within or living beyond a two-mile radius of DPAC
  3. Applicants living within a two-mile radius of DPAC
  4. Applicants who are a child of a DPAC employee or board member
  5. All remaining applicants

How is the waitlist managed?

After the lottery is held scholars not initially drawn from the lottery are placed on the waitlist. When a seat becomes available at a school a family will be called in the order of the school’s waitlist. Our waitlist is based on the same preference criteria as our lottery. Our waitlist is constantly moving as families make the decision to admit their scholar into our schools, the siblings of newly admitted scholars advance within the waitlist. Not to mention, families can apply at any point during the enrollment season. If your scholar is not selected from the waitlist, unfortunately, the application does not “roll over” and you would have to reapply for the following school year.
