ACDI/VOCA seeks expert volunteers to support its international development activities in business, agriculture, banking and financial services, marketing, cooperative and association development, food processing, and community development. Volunteers contribute their time and expertise while ACDI/VOCA pays for all assignment-related expenses. Greenheart Travel: Volunteer Summer Program

Spend your summer working to save elephants and villagers’ livelihoods by helping to resolve human-elephant conflicts in Wasgamuwa National Park, a vast and diverse wilderness area in North Central Sri Lanka. The illegal animal trade is the third largest in the world, and unlike other rescue centers, our animal reserve in Costa Rica is focused on rehabilitating wildlife and releasing them back into the wild. For 10 days, you’ll be fishing, swimming in freshwater, working on service projects and experiencing some of Australia’s most famous sites, such as the Great Barrier Reef.

Project TOAL: Trip of a Lifetime

Free travel opportunity if accepted into program and if your family qualifies for financial need. All students accepted to Trip of a Lifetime are placed on a two to four week summer travel experience, run by their trip partners. Every trip has between 20-40 students and 4-6 staff members; students never travel alone. We place students on their trips based on personal preference, age restrictions, and comfort levels; not every itinerary is for every student. In past years, accepted students have hiked the Grand Canyon, visited the Golden Gate Bridge, participated in community service in Santa Barbara, and even explored Costa Rica and Ecuador.

YMCA Global Teens Program

Y Global Teens is a leadership program that promotes civic engagement and a deeper understanding of social issues of local and global magnitude to prepare young people to lead in the 21st century. The program has three components, 1) the pre-travel, 2) travel and 3) post trip component which is a culmination of the year-long curriculum.

For Adults: Rein Teen Tour Chaperone

If you want to chaperone an international or domestic trip over the summer and get paid for it, apply to be a chaperone on a Rein Teen Tour! When completing the application, indicate if you are a Democracy Prep Public Schools staff member, teacher, alumni or part of our community in the application Reference section. Rein is the student travel company that plans the adventure and service trips for Trip of a Lifetime, mentioned earlier on this page.

There is not a defined application deadline though spots do fill up quickly and all upcoming summer chaperones must participate in a staff orientation from Friday, May 31-Sunday, June 2, 2019.
